The Braiding Success Project is a grant funded opportunity made available through the American Indian College Fund. In its efforts, Tohono O’odham Community College (TOCC) has implemented the project to focus on two areas within our partnership: Dual Enrollment and the Students Thriving, Achieving and Rising Together (S.T.A.R.T.) Program. The college has implemented this program at Baboquivari High School (BHS) which focuses on current students (9-12th grade), in addition to other schools located on the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Through this program, staff members have concentrated on students who are in need of academic support and encouragement to be on track to graduate from high school and prepare them with all necessary resources for their success. The core of the program includes tutoring sessions held at the high school and five pillars for success:

  • Personal Growth & Expression
  • College & Career Awareness
  • Academic & Life Skill Preparation
  • Community Building & Belonging
  • Global & Civic Engagement

The Program has also assisted in the area of K-12 Outreach. College Mentors at TOCC are excited and ready for the opportunity to visit your schools and classrooms to share information about our college and discuss programs and services that we can offer to potential students and families. We are also committed to help facilitate any workshops that you may want your group to participate in. Our College Mentors and the Special Projects and Initiatives Manager can also assist with creating a campus visit for your students/group.
